1. RECORDING STIMULUS - FAQ

1.1 WHAT IS THE RECORDING STIMULUS?

This fund is to facilitate the recording of Singles, EP’s OR Albums.

Grants of the below amounts will be available for each:

·       Single Recording: €1,200 to each successful application.

·       EP Recording: €4,000 to each successful application.

·       Album Recording: €6,000 to each successful application.

One grant per applicant only will be available.

Activity should commence and the first half of the grant drawn down by December 23rd, 2020.

1.2 WHO IS THE APPLICANT?

The applicant is an Independent record label in Ireland applying for an Irish artist on their roster

OR

A self-releasing artist resident in Ireland

OR

An International independent record label for an Irish client

1.3 WHO CAN APPLY?

Applications can be made by Independent Irish Record Labels, self-releasing artists or International independent Record Labels with Irish clients.

1.4 WHO CANNOT APPLY?

Funding will not be provided for recording sessions which took place before the launch of this fund.

Applicants whose recording timeline is scheduled to commence after December 23rd, 2020 will be considered ineligible.

1.5 WHAT MAY YOU APPLY FOR?

You may apply for funding to cover costs relating to your recording session(s) including:

  • Artist Fees
  • Session Musician Fees
  • Engineer Fees
  • Producer Fees
  • Studio Hire
  • Equipment Hire (nb: equipment purchase will be ineligible)
  • Mixing Costs
  • Mastering Costs

1.6 WHAT MAY YOU NOT APPLY FOR?

You may not apply for travel, accommodation or subsistence costs, equipment or instrument purchase.

Funding will not be provided for Recording Sessions which took place before the launch of this fund.

1.7 WHAT SUPPORTING MATERIAL MUST YOU PROVIDE?

  12. 4. Detailed recording proposal to include details on themes, collaborations and where the artworks appear within the artists’ personal trajectory. Please also include a timeline to reflect when and how the recording sessions will take place. (max 500 words)

Activity supported by this fund needs to commence before December 23rd, 2020.

1.11 WHO BENEFITS FROM THIS STIMULUS PACKAGE?

Musicians, professional session musicians, music producers, engineers, recording studios, independent record labels, music managers, mixers and mastering companies.

1.12 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS GRANT?

The grant must be used by Irish artists to record Albums, EP’s or Singles in Irish studios, for the purpose of release.

3. PROCESSING & ASSESSMENT OF APPLICATIONS - FAQ

3.1 OVERVIEW

The music resource agency, First Music Contact will manage the process and applications will be assessed by an expert panel drawn from the music industry in Ireland.

3.2 THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Applications received by the deadline will be checked for eligibility.

Late applications will not be accepted.

Eligible applications will be considered by the expert panel.

The panel will score eligible applications and award grants on the basis of these scores.  

The panel chair will be independent and non-voting.

Panelists will be required to confirm that they have no conflict of interest in ANY applications.

Panelists who declare a conflict of interest will be excluded from that applicants’ adjudication.

3.3 CRITERIA FOR ASSESSMENT

Applications are assessed in a competitive context and with consideration of all supporting material.

All applications are assessed against criteria of:

a) artistic merit which focuses on the applicant’s previous practice as well as on the viability of the proposed recording

b) how well they meet the objectives of the Album Release Stimulus Fund (see section 1.1)

c) feasibility of the promotional proposal which considers the extent to which the applicant demonstrates capacity to deliver the proposed activity

d) track record which the applicant demonstrates through the CV(s) and other supporting material submitted

3.4 OUTCOME OF APPLICATION

All applicants will receive an auto response that their Application has been received once it is successfully submitted via the online form.

Applicants will be contacted directly by FMC with the outcome of their Application.

4.  NOTIFICATION & FOLLOW UP - FAQ

4.1 APPROVED APPLICANTS

Approved applicants will be contacted by FMC and notified of their approval to proceed.

Applicants will be asked to provide bank details and acceptance of the terms and conditions of the grant.

4.2 DECLINED APPLICANTS

Declined applicants will be notified directly and feedback will be available if requested.

5.  PAYMENTS & REPORTING - FAQ

5.1 WHEN IS THE GRANT AVAILABLE TO DRAW DOWN?

Subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions of the grant you will receive 50% of the grant on award.

The balance will be paid upon completion of the recording, submission of a report and associated receipts.

5.2 WHEN DOES THE GRANT HAVE TO BE DRAWN DOWN BY?

The first 50% of the grant must be drawn down by December 23rd, 2020, subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions of the grant.
